FORD FIESTA 1.3L 1997 50k
Poor starting, misfire and top end noise for a few minutes when starting from cold on vehicle used as a courtesy car. Suspect fault due to sticking valves. After further investigation and removal of the rocker cover, it was found that the valves were sticking open and not locating the rocker arms in the push rods.
The fault was cured by cleaning the intake system with Petrol I.M.V. Cleaner as per instructions, extended Advanced Formula Motor Flush carried out and Advanced Formula Gas Treatment added to the fuel tank and carrying out an extended road test.
Thanks to Brian at White Hart Garage in Hope Valley, Derbyshire.
Forté's Technical Helpline receives over 300 calls per month. This blog shares solutions for garage workshops on common driveability concerns that can be quickly and effectively treated. The vast majority of those identified are caused by fuel and oil borne contamination formed by natural degradation or via the combustion process. This is a fact of life for internal combustion engines where fossil fuels and oils are used.
